If you’re looking to experience the best of what Corsica has to offer, visiting its beautiful beaches is a must. Of course, popular spots like Palombaggia, Santa Gjhulia, and Rondinara are well-known, but there are many other hidden gems waiting to be discovered. In this guide, I’ll share with you my insider knowledge on the best beaches in Corsica that are off the beaten path, offering a more authentic and less crowded experience. So, let’s dive into the world of Corsican beach bliss!
Corsica’s best secret beaches
Tower beach “Plage de la Tour”
Located near the village of Pianottoli-Caldarello in Corsica’s south-west coast, Tower beach is a hidden gem that boasts crystal-clear waters and a unique rock formation resembling those found at Lavezzi islands. While it may not be as well-known as other beaches on the island, I firmly believe it ranks among the best in Corsica. To get there, you’ll need to navigate a dirt road, but don’t worry – even smaller cars can make the journey.
Just take your time and avoid any potholes or bumps that might damage your vehicle. Upon arrival, you’ll find a small parking lot right by the beach, as well as plenty of shade to keep you cool. The beach itself is a thin strip of sand, but its clear waters and stunning rock formations make it truly special. The left end of the beach features an impressive rock formation that’s perfect for climbing and taking in the breathtaking views of the Mediterranean Sea and Corsica.
Just be sure not to jump from those rocks – I witnessed some teenagers attempting this feat only to have one suffer a serious injury, requiring emergency medical attention. Despite the risks, exploring under the rocks can lead to some amazing discoveries, including cool caves that are definitely worth investigating.
The cove between Palombaggia beach and Tamaricciu beach
While Palombaggia beach may be the most famous Corsican beach, its popularity comes with a price – crowds. However, just a short walk away lies a serene gem, often overlooked by visitors seeking the main attractions. The cove between Palombaggia and Tamaricciu beaches offers a tranquil escape from the bustling crowds, making it an ideal spot for a romantic picnic or simply basking in the sun.
To reach this hidden treasure, park your vehicle near Palombaggia beach and be sure to bring some cash, as parking typically requires a cash payment. From there, stroll along the beach path, passing by the restaurants, until you reach the coastal trail surrounded by trees. Continue walking until you spot the iconic Tamaricciu tree, which marks the entrance to the secluded cove.
As you settle into this peaceful haven, you’ll discover a protected environment that’s perfect for snorkeling or simply wading through the crystal-clear waters. The rocky shoreline is teeming with marine life, including colorful fish, sea cucumbers, and – if you’re particularly lucky – even an octopus (I can attest to the existence of one resident cephalopod who loves making appearances!).
Ficarola beach – Calanques de Piana
As you make your way from the breathtaking Calanques de Piana, Ficarola beach awaits, a haven to escape the heat and indulge in the crystal-clear waters. The winding road from the Calanques to the beach is easily navigable, leading to a parking lot where a short stroll down some stairs will transport you to this enchanting destination. As the day draws to a close, the setting sun casts a warm glow over the pebbled shore and the surrounding scenery, making it one of Corsica’s most stunning beaches. Be sure to bring some water shoes for comfort while wading in the exceptionally clear waters where you might even find yourself playing with the curious fish that dart about beneath the surface.
Piana Island
While Piana Island may not be as easily accessible as some of its counterparts, it’s definitely worth a visit for those willing to put in the effort. The journey begins with parking at Piantarella beach and embarking on a short walk to the shore. As you reach the middle of the beach, you’ll catch sight of Piana Island situated across from you – but here’s the twist: there’s no road leading to it.
You’ll need to decide whether to wade through the water, swim, or paddle your way to this secluded gem.
One thing to keep in mind is that the water level can be quite low at certain points, allowing for a refreshing stroll along the shore. However, be prepared to dip into the water at some stage of your journey. A foam pool noodle or makeshift raft could provide a welcome aid in navigating this part of the adventure.
Before setting out, it’s essential to consider your physical capabilities and comfort level in the water. Piana Island is not suitable for those who are hesitant swimmers, fatigued easily, or unsure of their ability to navigate the distance. The island’s relative isolation means that you’ll need to be self-sufficient and prepared for the challenge ahead.
Once you’ve conquered the initial leg of your journey, you’ll find yourself on Piana Island’s first beach, which is often buffeted by strong winds. After a well-deserved rest, you can pack up your belongings and make your way to the island’s other side, where the winds are generally gentler. To access Le Grand Sperone beach, embark on a short walk along the golf course path. Although not prominently signposted, simply follow the trail taken by fellow visitors. This picturesque destination boasts an expansive stretch of thin, white sand, surpassing its smaller counterpart, Le Petit Sperone. Recently, I had the pleasure of discovering Canetto Beach, a hidden gem that offers easy accessibility for all. What sets it apart is the striking white cliff that dramatically plunges into the water’s edge, creating a breathtaking landscape that’s sure to leave you in awe. This lesser-known beach boasts a generous width, providing ample space for relaxation and leisurely strolls along the shoreline.
L’île-Rousse beach
L’île-Rousse is a charming Corsican town situated in the northwestern part of the island. This picturesque destination offers a unique blend of modern amenities and traditional charm, making it an excellent spot to indulge in local cuisine, enjoy live music, or simply soak up the atmosphere. Famous Corsica best beaches
Palombaggia beach
Palombaggia beach is a must-visit destination in southern Corsica, nestled between the picturesque cliff town of Bonifacio and Porto-Vecchio. This stunning stretch of coastline boasts a long, thin strand of white sand and is shaded by towering umbrella pines. The crystal-clear waters offer ample opportunities for snorkeling and spotting marine life, including small octopuses. It’s no surprise that Palombaggia beach is regarded as one of the best sandy beaches in Corsica.
For parking, consider using one of the nearby paid carparks, with fees ranging from €5 to €10 per day, payable in cash. After working up an appetite, treat yourself to lunch at one of the on-beach restaurants, where you can dine with your toes in the sand.

Santa Giulia is undoubtedly one of the must-visit Porto-Vecchio beaches. Parking is relatively straightforward, with two car parks available: one free and one requiring an entrance fee. However, we recommend arriving early as this popular spot can get crowded quickly.
A small shop and food concession are conveniently located in the main car park and on the beach respectively.
Rondinara beach
Rondinara Beach, situated alongside Palombaggia and Santa Giulia beaches, boasts a unique semi-circular shape that serves as a natural windbreaker and wave damper. This peculiarity makes it an ideal spot to visit on windy days when the surf is up. Like its neighboring beaches, Rondinara offers crystal-clear turquoise waters and fine white sand reminiscent of the Caribbean coastlines.
The underwater world is equally captivating, with a diverse array of marine life including fish and hermit crabs, making it one of the top snorkelling spots in Corsica. On shore, visitors can enjoy casual dining at nearby restaurants or indulge in rejuvenating massages from a local therapist for just €1 per minute. For added convenience, a spacious parking lot was recently constructed behind the beach, providing ample parking facilities.
Mare e Sole beach
Corsica’s scenic coast is home to some of its most stunning beaches, and Mare E Sole beach stands out as a top pick in the Ajaccio area. As you explore this Mediterranean gem, consider dedicating a few days to discovering the region around Ajaccio – where this picturesque haven should undoubtedly be at the forefront of your plans.

Bodri beach
Bodri Beach, situated just a short distance from the charming L’île Rousse town, is a beloved destination for those seeking a relaxing beach experience. While it’s a popular spot, we would caution against visiting on a windy day, as this may detract from the overall ambiance. Fortunately, there are convenient carparks nearby and an option to take the local train, making it easily accessible.
Saleccia beach
Nestled within the majestic Agriates Desert in North Corsica, Saleccia beach boasts a striking combination of fine, powdery white sand and crystal-clear turquoise waters. This serene paradise is often overlooked by crowds, making it an ideal haven for those seeking a tranquil retreat amidst nature’s splendor.
The beach’s seclusion is largely attributed to its restricted accessibility via hiking trails, boats, or jeeps – a deliberate conservation effort that has preserved the area’s untouched beauty. For an unforgettable experience, we strongly recommend renting a buggy in the Gulf of Saint Florent and embarking on a leisurely journey down to the beach. Buggy rentals typically range from €180 for a full day to half-day options, offering an exhilarating adventure as you navigate the scenic route.
Please note that driving your vehicle down the path is not recommended due to its challenging terrain. To ensure a comfortable and enjoyable day at Saleccia, don’t forget to pack essential items such as plenty of water, nutritious snacks, and sufficient sunscreen, as there are no shops or amenities available on the beach.

Roccapina beach

The shoreline is safeguarded by towering rocks, rendering it an ideal destination for those seeking respite from windy conditions. Summer months see the beach transform into a bustling hub of activity as sailboats flock to its shores, basking in the beauty of the surrounding waters.
Despite the crowds, Roccapina beach remains one of Corsica’s most striking coastal attractions, warranting a visit for any visitor seeking an unforgettable experience.
Cala Achiarina beach on the Lavezzi islands
